4 people die in unrelated NYC subway incidents

Police say the mishaps – all on Saturday – are unrelated…
Are they really? There have been a lot of darkly odd coincidences happening since the start of 2012. First, New Year’s Day, 2012, was marked by a heinous murder in Mt. Rainier National Park committed by a young military veteran:

Perhaps we could suspect PTSD in that case. But shortly after that, another young ex-Marine in an even stranger case went on a rampage in Arizona. In this caper, the suspect had a strong interest in UFO’s and the 2012 doomsday meme. He had even written a book on the topic called Open Your Eyes: To 2012 and Beyond and had a following of over 4,000 fans on Facebook.
I listened to a recording of a radio interview the suspect did not long before he went haywire, and he seemed a true believer in his theories, possessing, (or possessed by), a tremendous fear that some sort of catastrophic solar event would happen in 2012. He was urging people to build tunnels to hide in:
“There is a very good reason why UFO and UFO activity has spiked in recent years. It’s because Mother Earth herself is in trouble. She is about to have a temper tantrum. Something has stirred the hive and that something is the once-every- 25,800-year great galactic alignment set to commence on December 21, 2012, otherwise known as the end of time as we know it.”
Even though that case was tragic and more strange than the Mt. Rainier murder, I still refused to relate the two initial cases. But shortly after that, a third even more bizarre and horrific case of ex-Marine murder was reported in California:

“He started talking about stuff that didn’t make any sense, that the end of the world was going to happen,” he said.
Perhaps that is why the subway deaths made me think of this Sci-fi movie about the end of the world (that we care about):

Nothing about the Drew Maras case adds up. There is even the mysterious white truck that was there, but not involved. And now his Facebook page has been taken down.

I knew Drew briefly in high school and he seemed like any normal guy. Loved skiing and seemed like he always got along with people. The story is very sad and I feel terrible for the families affected by his actions, and his own family for their loss. Its too bad he couldn’t get help sooner.

I went to school with Drew my whole life. He was always a nice, normal guy. His actions are quite shocking. My thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s loved ones.

While investigators initially sought a white truck they thought may have been in the area at the time of the homicide, that truck was eventually found and its owner determined to be innocent of any involvement.
“They did locate the truck, and it turned out not to be involved. It had been present at the turnout but was not involved in any fashion,” D’Evelyn said.”
Thanks, Felicity! I was wondering how the investigation was going. How strange about the Facebook wipe. I didn’t read it all, but after the shootings a guy posted who had been in the Marines with Maras at Great Lakes. He said he didn’t know Maras well because Maras always did his training separate from his unit since he was going to school in AZ at the time. I was wondering if he got some ‘special training’, if you know what I mean.
The guy who at least vaguely know him from the Marines was just as baffled as everyone else. (And he was now in police work, just like the last shooting victim was.)

Strange, indeed! It’s like they are courting disaster not warning people about those urban warfare exercises. Someone could freak out and think they were defending the city from an invasion…
